You are here because you want to get rid of your tattoo as quick as you can. And when doing a lot of research and reading on the subject, you kept coming across the R20 method of laser tattoo removal.

So what is the R20 method?

The R20 method doesn’t require new equipment or any extra training per se, as it’s pretty much the same as the standard method of laser tattoo removal. Rather it’s the way you USE the equipment.

In standard laser tattoo removal, the tattoo is treated to one laser treatment, one laser pass, to break up the ink, which is then eliminated through the body by your lymphatic system. Then we wait at least 6 weeks for your next treatment so that the body has enough time to remove the ink and for the treated skin to heal. On the surface, after a few weeks, it may look like the skin has healed to you, however, what you don’t see is the deeper layers of the skin. This is where is the skin is still healing.

With the R20 method, the wait time is much shorter. This is how it works: The laser tattoo removal technician will do the first treatment on the tattooed area. And then will wait 20 minutes. This allows for the ‘frosting’ or skin whitening to go back to normal. Then the second treatment/pass is carried out. Another 20 minutes wait. And then the third treatment/pass. You get the idea. In one given R20 session, the technician may make as many as 4 passes over the same area in only a matter of hours.

What  risks are involved?

While the R20 method may sound appealing, and many people want their tattoos gone as soon as possible right? However, it’s important to consider the risks involved.

The reason we wait at least 6 weeks between treatments, as mentioned, is to allow the body enough time to eliminate as much ink as possible however equally as important is allowing the skin on the surface, and the deeper layers to heal.

With the R20 method, you are causing multiple rounds of trauma to the unhealed skin, which can lead to scarring, hyper and hypopigmentation, not to mention the permanent changes to the skin texture. You are putting your skin through a very traumatic experience.
